Sunny Sunday Afternoon 11/7/2020
Sometimes, I think this is where I should live every weekend. So nice to escape corona confinement even if just for one afternoon. And the PuPus and MaiTais! What could top those, other than these views.
Ultimately, we got to the book, Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, which someone called "Roots" light. The story of generations of the families of two African sisters spanning from the16th to 20th centuries, mostly in Africa and America, covered a lot of historical and social territory. Each historical or societal element being explored was represented by an excerpt of one of those decedent's life. Yaa wove a rich tapestry of diverging ancestry which ends up coming together again in the homeland. We thought the writer's first book is just the beginning of what we expect to see from her and Homegoing was well worth the read.
The Overstory by Richard Powers is a book that has come up on our list of possibles for a while now, so we decided to read it next for our December meeting.
