Love in San Francisco?
well, since virtually everyone was in attendance last night, this recap is really for our lulu.
first, lu, it was incredibly thoughtful of you to keep your home open for our meeting, considering what was going on with your family. we are all keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for your son in law.
second, thanks to hilarie for stepping in as hostess. you did a great job keeping everything on track. we are really appreciative of your efforts.
third, we gave the japanese lover 3 stars (two 2's, one 3 and one 4). while lonnie thought it had some redeeming qualities, the balance of us thought there were some issues with the various plot lines, which never really melded together in any meaningful way. it had potential, but didn't live up to it.
fourth, only two people read the nightingale, and they hinted that it may warrant a rare 5 stars. this compelled those who hadn't read or finished it to vote to have it moved forward to our next meeting. unfortunately, this means stalin's daughter moved off the list, as it's really long.
fifth, kathy day is hosting next meeting on dec. 17 and the books will be nightingale and a gentleman in moscow. the next book picker is lu. i think my husband's work holiday party is that evening, so not sure i'll be able to make it.
sixth, while all the food was delicious (as usual), i think a special shout out is warranted for the DIY ice cream cookie sandwiches that carol provided. yum!
