Great Olive....Again!
For some reason, I expected that with the holidays and all, I’d be wrapped in the inspiration to create some delightful and memorable prose about our recent Book Group meeting. Though it was a stimulating affair, replete with satisfying gastric productions, real life took over immediately after the meeting, so here goes, almost two weeks later.
We seemed to be most taken by the Great Believers’ back and forth between the 80s and the 2000s. For the most part, we thought it worked and felt the book was pretty well written. It held our interest, though there was a range of views from great to slow, so many characters…we thought it hung together and gave it a solid 3 rating.
We gushed over Olive Again recalling its many appealing characters, emotions, and backstories, agreeing that Again Olive had more heart and self-reflection than original Olive. It was a book for our time and age that ultimately wove its varied and unlikely characters into a warm and comfortable pieced blanket of contentment. We loved it so much, we rated it a 5.
Le repas etait delicieux! From Nancy’s Coq au vin to Carol’s Crème Bruleè; There was Caesar salad and Haricots Vert. We scarfed down Hil’s Baked Brie en Coute and had special slow cooked mashed potatoes that were out of this world. It was a beautiful spread.
Next Meeting: Originally scheduled for February 1, but we changed it to January 31.
Next Host: Lonnie
Next Books: The Dutch House by Anne Patchett and The Testaments: The Sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
