A breath of Indian fare
A lovely evening at Maggie's that started with appetizers outdoors and then moved inside for Indian fare and book discussion.
When breathe becomes air... rated 4. Members felt it created an opportunity to review our own expectations of end of life care, as the author surrendered
his control over the illness and his expectations of his life and his career.
It prompted a discussion about shifting priorities and caring for family in the face of death.
Lilac Girls- also given a 4. Those who read the book enjoyed the depth of the characters and the descriptions of the life in the camps. Of particular interests was the lack of empathy that was displayed my one of the female MDs attending to the women as they were experimenting on them.
Next group is at Hilarie's house ( I hope) on November 18.
Books for our next gathering:
Ta-Nehisi Coates: Between the World and Me
Lucia Berlin: A Manual for Cleaning Women
