Small yet mighty
We had a lovely small group meeting last night, with less, but still completely magnificent food to accompany. We missed those of you that could not make it. We had a rousing discussion of the “We Should All Be Feminists” essay, ranging from it’s simplicity being almost insulting, to a recognition that it is a glimpse into Nigerian culture and hugely important in an international context, for which it was probably intended. We must remember the bubble that we live in. Trevor Noah’s book was enjoyed by all who read it. His story telling, and his story were the main draws. Everyone who read it was left wanting to know more, like how did this bad boy make it out to the fame and success he is currently enjoying. Girl Waits With Gun was also enjoyed by most of us. The fact that it is largely a true story elevated the appreciation of the book. Some stories might seem trite or over-the-top until we learn that they are actually historical. The feeling was that it was an enjoyable light read. All three pieces were given a solid 3.
