How to recap yet another fantastic evening? We continue to outdo ourselves with the wonderful food selections; from Lonnie's tempura appetizers to Hil's seafood soup first course we were off on a roll! The buffet included gyoza from Lu, sweet potatoes from Nancy, a noodle dish from Helene and teriyaki chicken from moi! Tres magnifique! Julie provided a selection of Sake and we were all surprised by the very different flavors offered. Who knew? Dessert included Ninja gingerbread men and delectable homemade green tea and black sesame seed ice cream from Carol. We are not worthy of the food offerings we present to each other! The books presented a more difficult challenge. Subject matter and writing styles both left a bit to be desired. While "The Girls Like Us" pulled at our heartstrings and our moral sensitivities, most of us struggled with the way the story was told and had a hard time being brought in to the experience. This book was rated a 2. "A Tale for The Time Being" didn't fare much better. Most of us couldn't quite figure out what it was all about? Quantum physics and a sense of being between realities? Insight into Alzheimer's? To be honest I don't even know what to report here! When Hilarie said she'd give it a three there was a gasp around the table! Ultimately we settled on another 2. We then debated long and hard over the tied vote for a second book for our January meeting. The Social Animal by David Brooks was in, but we could not seem to break the tie that we faced for the other book. With the upcoming holidays and far too many distractions, we decided to forego a second book this round and just commit to the one. Sorry Mary!!! Overall the night was delightful. It may be argued that there has never been so much laughter around a table! What fun!
