Jan. 3, 2015 Meeting
Thank you, Hilarie, for sharing your beautiful home with us last night. The table was exquisite. Well, this was another stirring meeting, starting with the food and ending with the most stimulating of conversations. The pictures of the food speak for themselves. It all tasted as good as it looks. We’d been anticipating Hilarie’s chowder for weeks and it was more than worth the wait.
We were all in agreement on 10,000 Saints and were barely able to muster up a 2 for it. We found the characters to be shallow and unsympathetic, the writing was clumsy and inartful and the story just didn’t go anywhere. To some of us, the end of the story seemed to come when the author just got tired of writing it. As we recalled the various characters, they all seemed to be self absorbed and on drugs of some kind and had no real redeeming qualities.
Only a few finished Luminaries and we thought it best to vote on it at the next meeting. A couple of us could not get into it, 2 have finished it and the rest are working through it. Those of us who found the writing refreshing and the story presentation engaging plan to finish it by the next meeting. We talked some about the book, especially the astrological aspects and how elements of the story are presented.
The next meeting March 15 at Nancy’s and the books are:
1-Till the Well Runs Dry
2-Dinosaur Feather
